Specifications:
Manufacturer: ROBIN
Model: DR253B
Section/Category
light-aircraft/shares+groupsDescription:
Thank you for taking the time to read this advert, I do realise I will probably waffle on too much about my baby, G-AYUB! I am planning to open 3 shares at 20% each, enabling me to retain 40% shareholding (assuming 3 shares are sold). I am very open to equal shareholders, so if myself retaining a larger share than anyone else puts you off, please just say! (you will realise I am very laid back and just keen to share my lovely aircraft with like-minded individuals!).
Here are the conditions you agree to as part of the £11,000 share price:
1) Monthlies – £150 (covers hangarage, insurance & oil etc)
2) Hourlies – £150p/h wet (on tacho)
3) The engine is “high time” and will likely need an overhaul in the next 500-700 hours. Your contribution to the new engine will be capped at £7,000. I do not expect you to pay for an overhauled engine that you have not benefited from in previous ownership (me alone!). I know “high timed” engines can put people off and I’ve been thinking about how best to advertise this aircraft. Hopefully the above is a positive for any prospective acquirer!
4) £10,000 to be sent to me on agreement of ownership share and £1,000 to be put in the plane fund.
5) I will cover all costs associated to the annual, which is due for renewal in October 2025. No cost to the new shareholder(s).
Reg – G-AYUB
Located – Lydd, EGMD
Year – 1971
TTAF – 2,500ish
TTE – 1,590ish
TTP – 50ish
NB the aircraft is in weekly use so timings may be slightly increased.
Fuel Burn – 35LTRS an hour at 2,400rpm (cruise 120KTS)
Fuel Tanks – 240LTRS total (100L Main, 40L Wing x 2, 60L Aux)
Endurance – 6 Hours plus 45 mins reserve (total 6.75 hours)
The plane comes with (feel free to use):
1 x Outdoor cover included for overnight layovers where hangered is not available
4 x Headsets (1 x Bose A20 with Bluetooth for P1)
4 x Lifejackets
1 x Personal locator Beacon (PLB)
Interior – 7/10
Grey leather seats (technically 5 seats but currently insured for 1 P1 + 3 PAX). The grey leather looks old (they are!) but genuinely the comfiest small aircraft seats I’ve sat in. Managed a 4 hour, 17 minute flight without a numb bum in July 2025, I’ll take that as a win!
Exterior – 8/10
Blue & White with Blue/Gold/White Decal. I believe the airframe was resprayed in about 2012/13. Then hangered away for a significant amount of time, so generally the aircraft paint is in fantastic condition. There are, however, a small number of small imperfections, as you would imagine from use, particularly on items that are removed often (such as the top and bottom engine cover).
New brakes are on order and will be replaced at the October 2025 annual, no cost to the new shareholder(s).
1 x new wheel spat is on order (after the fitted one was damaged on a normal landing at Beccles airfield in early 2025.
2 x new main tyres (and inner tubes) were fitted in July 2025
Avionics
Audio Panel – Narco CP136
Transponder – Trig TT31 Mode S (New at 2024 annual)
Nav/Comm 1 – Narco MK-12D (25 kHz)
Nav/Comm 2 – Garmin GNC 255 (25 & 8.33 kHz)
ADF – Bendix-King KR87
I’m not going to lie, it’s a basic panel. But the reason I made for not upgrading is that 95% of my flying is VFR and I use SkyDemon for most of it. G-AYUB is technically IFR capable (although very basic) and I do plan to do my IR(R) licence later in 2025 having completed my PPL(Night) rating early in 2025.
The cost of upgrading the panel is phenomenal, I’ve had some quotes. Something I am open to discussing as/when shares are sold. No pressure implied by that comment, I’m too easy going!
Engine
180HP Lycoming O-360-A2A with good compressions and in exceptional condition for age/hours. Will be overhauled when required but current maintenance organisation (Hangar 25 Aviation, Husbands Bosworth gliding site) are really pleased with the internals (which were all thoroughly examined and checked in 2024 when a cylinder was replaced).
Propellor
New at 2024 annual, Sensenich 76EM8S5-0-64 FPP, replaced a costly constant speed prop (Hartzell HC-C2YK-1B 2 Blad VPP) that failed it’s 7 year annual. I do still own the Hartzell and may get a 2nd opinion on this propellor at some point due to it only having 400 hours!
Location
Lydd Airport, EGMD, TN29 9QL
Yes yes, I know, it’s towards the end of the Earth…! BUT I love Lydd. Everyone are so accommodating, I’m in a lovely Hangar (Hangar 1) with about 4-5 other aircraft (plenty of room unlike some places!!), the ground crew will help you get G-AYUB out, and will help you put her back when you’re done. They cover all the fuelling (can even be done before you arrive if you wish), and the reception team are lovely. I have tried other local airfields (grass runways) but found that during winter months especially, my aircraft became a dust collector whilst I was sat wondering when the airfield would reopen.
The Current Owner
A bit about myself. I am a PPL, with some add on’s (Night, retractable, glass cockpit, CSP) all current. I have amounted about 320 hours total, of which 250 hours is P1, and about 150 hours now in G-AYUB. Passionate about anything with an engine, flying seemed like the next obvious step up from fast cars.
Since passing my PPL in August 2021, I’ve been very much an exploring PPL. I don’t get anywhere near as much enjoyment of flying back to my favourite bacon sandwich airfield with a Latte on offer…I like GOING PLACES. More recently I’ve flown from Lydd to places such as Newcastle International, Alderney, Jersey, Manchester Barton, Auch (south of France just north of the Pyrenees), Breda (Netherlands), as well as many quick hops over to Le Touquet, and lots of more “local” flying to see friends/family/clients.
I plan, later in the year, to fly to Krakow in Poland with a flying partner (currently working towards his CPL), who is keen for the 2 of us to fly back to his home country, just “Because we can!”.
Very open to the idea of exploring with like-minded individuals who “just want to give it a go”.
As previously mentioned, I’m an incredibly laid-back individual that just wants to enjoy aircraft ownership knowing that there are 3 other shareholders similarly minded. I fly approx. 80-100 hours a year but it’s not “quite” enough to warrant ownership solely.
