Model: MW5

Age:1994

Description:

G-MWSY MW5 SSDR - the only MW5 in the UK with wing tanks fitted!

The most fun you can have for £3250!

**I had an engine out landing during my last flight and that was traced to the fuel vent tubes not being positioned into the Airflow, therefore creating a vacuum and negative pressure in the tank and starving the tank of fuel. I have ran it extensively since and by sucking on the vent tubes, in their current orientation replicated exactly the same problem. I’m currently designing some brackets to hold the vent tubes in place into the airflow so this shouldn’t happen again**

It won’t be flown now and I have now since, cancelled my insurance policy so selling as a 90% complete project ready for someone with a bit of mechanical knowledge to carry on and get flying again in no time. The only other job I would have done if I carried on owning is replacing the sight tubes (five minute job!) replacing the Fuel Pump and rebuilding the carb but that certainly isn’t essential for flight.

Wings recently recovered back in 2023 using Ceconite. Finished to a high standard. Having stripped the original covering, allowed to inspect the wing structure itself. Pictures of the covering process can be provided should you so wish.

The rudder and elevator wasn’t recovered and could probably do with recovering again at somepoint but not a job that needs to be done straight away. Slight cracking on the paint (polyurethane) but the covering and structure is sound. Checked by an LAA and BMAA Inspector.

Probably one of the best MW5’s ever built by expert builder Jim Holloway, who has built two MW5’s (MWSY and MWSX) and various other three axis microlights including Rans S6’s and Skyranger’s. I don’t think I can stress how well built and strong this aircraft is!

Both wings have extra strengthening spars as seen on the MW6.

349 Airframe and 360 Engine Hours

Engine decoked less than 10 hours ago and a new head gasket set and spark plugs fitted

It has two 25 litre wing tanks, totalling 50 and providing an endurance of 4 hours at 12 litres per hour plus reserves. The only MW5 in the UK with wing tanks. Design approved my Mike Whittaker (designer) himself!

Winter ASI, VSI and Altimeter.

Carb Heat

A slight extension to the original windscreen which keeps you even more protected from the elements, whilst still keeping that open cockpit experience

Upgraded lift struts

No Transponder or Radio, however there is a mount for a radio which fit’s the ICOM A6 perfectly.

The seat cover has a few small holes in it but still perfectly usable

Engine and Airframe logbooks all up to date and a huge bundle of paperwork to go with it.

Always hangared since being built.

The perfect aircraft for a bit of summer fun and a great introduction to open cockpit, still being protected well from the elements! Such great fun to fly.

Of course, you’d be welcome to fly it away subject to you being happy with everything, otherwise it would collection or I may be able to deliver to you for a cost on a custom trailer.

See attached photos and YouTube videos.

Only selling now as I have upgraded to a two seat 912 powered machine and can’t afford to keep both. I will be genuinely sad to sell it with all of the hours put in on the wings and it being such a well built aircraft.

Any questions or queries then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
