Electrics.
Installed is a single 12v leisure battery that is kept charged through a Victron Smart controller that is powered by the alternator as well as a 150watt solar panel and Victron MPPT Solar Charge controller. Between these two, I have never had low battery issues. The 12V battery powers a set of ceiling lights, a few USBs and the 12v tv. I have installed a 150-watt inverter (pure sin wave for laptops – not a cheap Chinese one but one made by Sterling) but I have not yet connected it to the single 240v plug. The water is pumped from the tank (10 litres) from a 12v pump all wired to a high standard.
Heating
Installed is a simple diesel heater. I bought this to try it out having read online that they are as good as the branded types and so far, it has provided flawless operation. It’s a bit of a faff if you run it out fuel as you need to re prime the pump but 10L of diesel in the tank kept me warm for over a week of near continuous running. With the door closed and tv on, it makes the space very cozy for a movie.
Water
The water system is simple, it has two 10 L tanks, one fresh and one grey that are kept in the cabinet. Easy to fill and empty as and when needed. The pump outlets the water into the smev sink.
Gas
The gas is a flogas cylinder that is stored in the same cabinet as the water and feeds the two burners integral to the SMEV cook top/sink unit.
Mechanics
The overall mechanicals are excellent. I had the wet belt changed by Ford UK about 12 months ago (approx. 4000 miles ago and £2000). The only thing that has gone wrong is the alternator failed so I replaced this which is working flawlessly. The Van has been well looked after. By the previous owner and myself. The Camper has 11 months MOT.
Bad Points
The only thing that lets the van down is the cab and the bumper. The seats are pretty poor and could really do with replacing for the Van to be the best it can be. This is reflected in the price where vans of equal fit out and equipment lists are over £20,000, and often with much higher milage. I have a quote of £1000 to replace the bumper which is also reflected in the price. I would do this myself but im unlikely to reap the rewards of using them with being set on selling her.
The exterior has a few knocks and paint chips but is otherwise in excellent condition with no rust or bubbling paint. I will not sell without the van being seen. The sale is sold as seen but I see no reason why any buyer would be disappointed. It’s a robust machine that has been nicely fitted out with a generous list of equipment. I had intended taking it across Europe but work commitments don’t allow this. I wouldn’t want to live in it but many do and as conversions go, this one is perhaps better equipped for the ‘off-gridder’ with its power system being totally self-sufficient.
First to see will buy.
