Description
After a 7-year build and 36 years of flying, my Deenethorpe based Long-EZ is now up for sale.
I’ll be 78 in May, have been flying since I was 15 - Air Training Corps gliding, RAF Flying Scholarship, 12 years in the RAF and 30 years commercially - & have decided it’s now time for someone else to enjoy this great little aircraft:-
LAA Permit to Fly: Recently renewed – valid to 24/03/27
LAA approved Max Take of Mass (MTOM): 646kg (1425lb), Max Landing Mass (MLM): 601kg (1325lb)
Empty Mass (inc front & rear seat cushion’s, minor spares & 3kg (6.5lb) nose ballast): 416kg (918lb)
Engine: Lycoming O-235-L2A (118HP @ 2800rpm). Fuel: Avgas 100LL. Tank capacity- aprox 40gal/90L - 20gal/45L each L & R tank.
Airframe/engine: 870 hrs since new -
first flight: 1990
Ignition: Electroair electronic ignition (lower plugs) + Slick impulse magneto (upper plugs)
Starter/Alternator: B&C lightweight units with B&C voltage regulator
Oil Filter: B&C Spin-on oil filter adapter & Champion spin- on filter
Air Intake & Filter: Hal Hunt “Berkut” style ram air box with with K & N re-usable filter
Avionics: Dynon EFIS-D6, Trig TY96 radio, Funkwerk TRT800A ADS B Txpdr & TM250 Traffic Monitor, FLARM Mouse & FLARM View, uAvionix SkyEcho2
263 hrs since 2nd top overhaul (+ heavy-duty pistons fitted)
Historical oil analysis reports available
Propeller: Performance Propellers 62” × 63”, recently cleaned and re-varnished, with 6” Prop extension & Ken Brock single bulkhead Spinner. (Included are 2 LAA approved spare propellers)
Additional details:
Both rear seat baggage strakes fitted with window panels on underside.
12V Electric cabin heater with sealed safety heating elements
LAA Approval obtained to mount up to 4 GoPro type cameras on wing outer tie down points
Original GU canard fitted with LAA-approved vortex generators giving
very stable trim characteristics in rain and speed changes
Very clear “direct reading” fuel gauges fitted.
Webbing on Front & rear seat harnesses professionally replaced in Feb 2025
Includes: Airframe & Engine Installation Plans inc original & unused full size paper templates, full set of Rutan “Canard Pusher” publications, tools, spares & various accessories
Note: Current Tyre/Spat configuration requires a hard runway
After 36 years the paintwork needs some attention, but the aircraft remains a fantastic and well-cared-for example
Folding bikes: For solo touring, note that a folded Brompton bike will fit in the rear seat recess, with the cushion removed, & secured with the seat harness.

Note that on these videos, I was taking off & landing on a displaced & narrow area of the runway which at the time had the best surface condition. The Deenethorpe runway is much improved now, particularly the full width SW section of RW22 since repairs were carried out
