Respecting Your Time: Our Performance Manifesto

Why Speed Matters

In aviation, precision and efficiency are paramount. We believe software serving the community should reflect those same values. While our competitors rely on bloated, off-the-shelf commercial frameworks that download megabytes of unnecessary data to your device, AFORS is powered by an engine engineered entirely differently.

An Engine Built for Efficiency

AFORS runs on a bespoke, highly flexible Content Management architecture developed organically over the 27 years of serving the aviation community. While its roots began with AFORS, the underlying engine has evolved to power a high-traffic network of classified advertising marketplaces with one uncompromising goal: maximum speed and structural efficiency.

  • Zero Bloat: We deploy pure, vanilla JavaScript and CSS engineered to be as small as possible, using only what is needed for the page being displayed. With the strict exception of Stripe's mandated security scripts for PCI-compliant payments and fraud prevention, there are no heavy external libraries or commercial frameworks dragging down your browser.
  • In-Memory Processing: Our infrastructure utilises high-performance Solid State Drives (SSDs) and is configured with expansive RAM. This allows the entire codebase and active database indexes to run directly from memory, virtually eliminating slow Disk I/O bottlenecks.
  • Direct Data Access: Our persistence layer utilises highly optimised, compiled database routines that execute in fractions of a millisecond.
  • Energy Efficient: Faster in-memory execution on the server translates directly to less electricity consumed per page load, minimising our environmental footprint.

The Result: Continuous Improvement

When you navigate AFORS, the server typically constructs most pages in under 50 milliseconds. While the actual download time depends entirely on your browser, device, and internet connection, our minimal payload means we aim to deliver the complete page to your screen in under half a second.

For context, search engines like Google consider a page to be exceptionally fast if it loads in under 2.5 seconds. By targeting half a second, we aim to exceed top-tier industry standards by a factor of five.

  • Inner Pages & Advert Views: 20 to 50 ms
  • Category & Section Listings: 50 to 100 ms
  • Main Index & Complex Queries: 100 to 200 ms

This variance reflects the reality of dynamic, real-time database queries versus stale cache serving. By keeping even our most complex, data-heavy index aggregations under a fifth of a second, we respect your time, your device's battery life, and your bandwidth, allowing you to focus purely on the marketplace.
