THE IKARUS - high-wing, capable, great value
A proven C42C in excellent condition. Rotax 912 ULS (100 hp), Helix 3-blade prop, BRS, electric flaps and trim, Beringer brakes, LED lighting, Rosetta FX with onboard 5G router, Kanardia Horis EFIS, Kanardia Indu hybrid instruments, Trig radio with SkyDemon integration and Trig transponder with certified GPS source. 560kg MTOW. Regularly serviced and housed in the new Hangar 2. In the last two years alone it's flown to Scotland, East Anglia, Sandown and the south coast.

THE GROUP
Our group started over twenty years ago. In that time we've upgraded our aircraft three times and now own our fourth outright - a C42C that's less than three years old. We're committed to professional maintenance and ongoing improvement, and a single monthly fee of £66.11 covers all fixed costs.

This year we're expanding from one aircraft to two, adding the brand-new Skyleader (on order since November, arriving late July). To support it, the syndicate is growing from 15 members to 27 - broadening what's on offer and further improving availability across both aircraft. Hourly rates are set to optimise utilisation, build group reserves against the unexpected and fund future upgrades, and are reviewed at every AGM.

WHO WE ARE
Our members come from all backgrounds:
• Trainee pilots who secured a place ahead of their licence, ready to fly two modern aircraft once they pass their GST
• Newly qualified pilots - there's no minimum hour requirement unlike some other syndicates
• Former Group A owners who now fly for a fraction of the cost - or far more for the same money, valuing the short-strip performance that opens up airfields a heavier, faster aircraft simply can't reach
• Pilots of older 450kg microlights who have entered the new world of 600kg light sport microlights (LSM) - gone are the days of having to choose between taking a passenger or a full tank of fuel
• Renters who've swapped flying school rates for the benefits of co-ownership
• Active instructors flying purely for their own enjoyment
• Retired airline pilots keeping their hand in with something fun and modern

THE NUMBERS
Renting a Cessna 152 typically costs around £200/hour wet. Factor in fuel at today's prices and the Ikarus works out at roughly £51/hour and the Skyleader at around £74/hour - about a quarter to a third of the cost per hour.

IN-HOUSE TRAINING
With two qualified instructors in the group, differences training and revalidation training can be arranged directly within the syndicate - no more waiting for a slot with a busy flying school. And following the CAA's licensing simplification, 11 of the 12 hours needed to revalidate a PPL(A), LAPL(A) or NPPL SEP rating can now be flown in a microlight.

A GENUINE ASSET
Shares in well-run groups like ours have historically held or grown in value, and have typically sold quickly when members needed to move on. Your circumstances may change - you're not locked in.
